White-backed vulture (Gyps africanus) - Chobe National Park, Botswana

Vultures are unfairly considered grim and foreboding due to their association with death. However, they play a vital role cleaning up the ecosystem. Lit by the morning sun, these vultures were resting on top of a tree. I feel this image, with them standing tall, really shows quite how extraordinary they are.
