Namaqua chameleon (Chamaeleo namaquensis) - Dorob National Park, Namibia

Wildlife photography is often dominated by large mammals but isn’t this Namaqua chameleon simply exquisite! One of my all-time favourite images, the detail and scale are remarkable. This creature was no more than two inches across and would fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. What appear to be rocks that the chameleon is walking on, are in fact tiny pebbles. Photographing this animal produced its own unique challenges and getting the camera down to the eye level of the chameleon involved partially burying the camera and lens into the sand - probably not recommended by the manufacturer!
